Primary schools, kindergartens, the city market, swimming pools, sports halls, and the City Administration of the City of Vukovar will become more energy efficient by using solar energy. All of this is made possible by the project with the unequivocal name - Sun Over Vukovar (SunNyVuk), worth almost 775,000 euros, with financial support from Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. This is a project that, in addition to increasing the annual production of electricity, also contributes to the reduction of annual CO2 emissions in the Vukovar area and its surroundings.
Production, savings, and less pollution.
This is the first step towards transforming Vukovar into a carbon-neutral city using renewable energy sources, which will strengthen its capacity for future similar initiatives and projects. Integrated solar power plants with a capacity of 863.1 kWp will be installed on 12 public city institutions, and will annually produce about 932 MWh of electricity, thereby reducing CO2 emissions by about 148 tons every year. In this way, the City of Vukovar will significantly increase the production and use of renewable energy sources, laying the foundation for addressing climate change in the future.

The public institutions where the solar power plants will be built are: Elementary School Mitnica, Elementary School Nikole Andrića, Elementary School Antuna Bauer, Elementary School Dragutin Tadijanović, Elementary School Blage Zadre, Elementary School Siniše Glavaševića, Kindergarten Centar, Kindergarten Sajmište, City Market Vukovar, Sports Hall Borovo naselje, Swimming pool Vukovar, and City Administration of the City of Vukovar.
The implementation of the project lasts until April 2024.
The project Sunce nad Vukovarom (SunNyVuk) is co-financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2014-2021, under the Energy and Climate Change program. The project is led by the City of Vukovar, with Energy Farm International Foundation from Norway as a project partner. The total value of the project is 774,968.55 euros, while the non-refundable funds amount to 658,723.27 euros (85%). The project implementation period is from May 6, 2022, to April 26, 2024.
